Connecticut Electrical License Renewal

Connecticut's Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) licenses electrical contractors and journeypersons, with the Electrical Work Examining Board. Every electrical license expires each year on September 30. Renewing costs $150 for a contractor and $120 for a journeyperson, and takes 4 hours of continuing education a year, finished by June 30, three months before the renewal deadline. Connecticut Plumbing License Renewal
Last reviewed November 2026
Every Connecticut plumbing and pipefitting license from the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) expires each year on October 31, and renewing online costs $150 for a contractor and $120 for a journeyperson. Missed October 31? An expired license can be reinstated if the reinstatement form and fees are submitted to DCP no later than three years after it expired. File online at elicense.ct.gov or on DCP's paper form, with your required CE finished first. If you didn't work under the license in Connecticut while it was expired, the fee is the same $150 or $120; if you did, it's $165 or $132 for each year you worked, up to three years. After three years you reapply and retest. Continuing education runs in two-year windows that end July 31, three months before the renewal deadline: contractors finish theirs in even-numbered years, journeypersons in odd-numbered years.

Connecticut's Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) registers home improvement contractors under the Home Improvement Act. You need general liability insurance of at least $20,000 and enter your insurer's name and policy number in the renewal.
