  • Kentucky Electrician License Renewal (HBC)

    Last reviewed October 2026

Kentucky's Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction (HBC) licenses electrical contractors, master electricians and electricians. Since House Bill 444 took effect on July 15, 2024, every license issued or renewed is good for two years, at double the old yearly fee. You renew by the last day of your birth month in the second year, with proof of continuing education and, for contractors, proof of insurance. A 60-day grace period follows with a $50 late fee; after that the license terminates.

    Renews every
2 years: any license issued or renewed on or after July 15, 2024 is a biennial license. Renew on or before the last day of your birth month in the second year
    Continuing education
At least 6 hours of CE per year from an approved provider (KRS 227A.100(7)), with proof sent with the renewal. Master electrician and electrician courses cover job safety, electrical codes or the electrical trade; electrical contractor courses cover business or job safety. A contractor can't use a master electrician's or electrician's hours toward the contractor's CE
  • Kentucky Plumber License Renewal (HBC)

    Last reviewed October 2026

Kentucky's Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction (HBC) licenses master and journeyman plumbers, and plumbing licenses renew every year: by the last day of your birth month. You send proof of 6 hours of continuing education with the renewal and, as a master plumber, proof of at least $250,000 in general liability insurance. Miss the date and you pay a small revival fee; go 180 days without renewing and the license is canceled.

    Renews every
Year: master and journeyman plumber licenses expire on the last day of your birth month, every year
    Continuing education
6 hours of approved CE, earned in the 12 months before renewal, in business, job safety, the Kentucky State Plumbing Code or the plumbing trade. No more than 2 hours of safety practices and procedures per 12 months count. Holding both a master and a journeyman plumber license, you complete the hours for one of them
  • Kentucky HVAC License Renewal (HBC)

    Last reviewed October 2026

Kentucky's Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction (HBC) licenses master HVAC contractors and journeyman HVAC mechanics, and both licenses renew every year: by the last day of your birth month. You send proof of 6 hours of continuing education with the renewal and, as a master HVAC contractor, proof of your liability and property damage insurance. Miss the date and you have a 60-day grace period with a restoration fee; after that the license terminates.

    Renews every
Year: master HVAC contractor and journeyman HVAC mechanic licenses must be renewed by the last day of your birth month, every year. A license that isn't renewed expires
    Continuing education
6 hours of approved CE, earned in the 12 months before renewal, in business, job safety, codes relating to HVAC or subjects directly related to the HVAC trade. No more than 2 hours of safety practices and procedures per 12 months count. Holding both a master and a journeyman HVAC license, you complete the hours for one of them
