Vermont Electrician License Renewal
Last reviewed October 2026
Vermont master, journeyman and type-S journeyman electrician licenses from the Vermont Electricians' Licensing Board are valid for three years and expire on the last day of a month the Board designates. To renew, send the signed renewal application, your continuing education certification and the fee before the license expires: 15 hours on the National Electrical Code for master and journeyman electricians, 8 hours on your specialty for a type-S journeyman, plus the Vermont Energy Goals education module. A lapsed license can be renewed within a year of its expiration date for $25 more; after that, you apply for a new license.

Type-S journeyman: 8 hours of Board-approved instruction on your specialty during the preceding 36 months; holding more than one type-S field can change the total, so check with the Division. Approved seminars are listed on the Division's Electricians page
Vermont Plumber License Renewal
Last reviewed October 2026
Vermont master plumber, journeyman plumber and specialist licenses from the Vermont Plumbers' Examining Board are valid for two years and expire on the last day of a month the Board designates. The renewal application and fee must reach the Division of Fire Safety before the license expires, with proof of 8 hours of Board-approved continuing education from the previous 24 months (at least 2 hours of code review) and the Vermont Energy Goals education module. A lapsed license can be renewed within 90 days of its expiration date for a $15 reinstatement fee on top of the renewal fee; after 90 days you apply for reinstatement and appear before the Board.

- Continuing education
- 8 hours of Board-approved continuing education or training within the previous 24 months, at least 2 hours of it code review. A course counts for only one license renewal, and a copy of the course certificate is acceptable proof. The list of approved courses is linked from the Division's Plumbing page
Vermont Residential Contractor Registration Renewal
Last reviewed October 2026
Since April 1, 2023, Vermont has required residential contractors to register with the Office of Professional Regulation (OPR) before contracting with a homeowner for residential work worth more than $10,000. Every registration expires on March 31 of an odd-numbered year, so the next deadline is March 31, 2027. Renewing costs $75 for an individual registration or $250 for a business registration, is done online, and needs a copy of your certificate of insurance showing at least $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate liability coverage. Renewals open 6 weeks before the expiration date. Miss it and the registration expires: practice with an expired registration is unlawful, and reinstating it normally costs a penalty on top of the renewal fee.
- Renews every
- 2 years: every registration expires on March 31 of an odd-numbered year. Next: March 31, 2027
- Continuing education
- None: 26 V.S.A. chapter 106 sets no continuing education requirement for residential contractors, and OPR's residential contractor pages list none
