  • Nebraska Electrician License Renewal

    Last reviewed November 2026

Every electrical license and apprentice registration the Nebraska State Electrical Board issues expires on December 31 of even-numbered years, so the 2025-2026 ones all expire on December 31, 2026. Renew from October 1 to November 30 of the even-numbered year (by November 30, 2026 this cycle) at the regular fee: $375 for contractor and master licenses, $75 for journeyman, wireman, fire alarm installer and special licenses, $70 for an apprentice registration. From December 1 to December 31 a 10% late fee is added, and there is no grace period after December 31: an expired license can't be renewed, and you apply for a new one. Renew online on the Division's licensing portal, where your 12 hours of board-approved continuing education (at least 6 on the National Electrical Code) must already be on file, or by mail. Apprentices need no CE to renew.

    Renews every
2 years. All electrical licenses and apprentice registrations expire on December 31 of even-numbered years: the 2025-2026 ones expire December 31, 2026
    Continuing education
12 contact hours of board-approved courses, at least 6 of them on the National Electrical Code, to renew any license. Apprentice registrations need no CE to renew, but without it the board adds to the experience an apprentice needs before the exam
  • Nebraska Contractor Registration Renewal

    Last reviewed October 2026

Nebraska's Contractor Registration Act requires contractors and subcontractors doing business in Nebraska to register with the Nebraska Department of Labor before performing any construction work in the state. The registration is renewed every year, online through your profile on the Department of Labor's contractor registration site, and the fee is $40 from August 1, 2026. Contractors with employees must also keep workers' compensation proof current, which the Department of Labor says means a certificate of insurance on file: if the coverage expires, the contractor is removed from the list of registered contractors until an updated certificate arrives.

    Renews every
Every year. The Contractor Registration Act says each registration is renewed annually, and the Department of Revenue says registration must be renewed every 12 months
  • Lincoln, NE Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical License Renewal

    Last reviewed October 2026

The City of Lincoln's Building and Safety department registers plumbing, gas fitting, water conditioning, mechanical and electrical tradespeople and contractors, and each registration is renewed with the city online in Citizen Access, with no account or log-in needed. Plumbing registrations renew from March 1st to May 31st and mechanical registrations from October 1st to December 31st; miss the date and you are no longer licensed to perform certain work in Lincoln, and a license not renewed within 60 days from its expiration is revoked, with the examinations it required to re-take. Plumbing and mechanical masters and journeymen submit continuing education hours for approval before the renewal is approved. An electrical contractor or fire alarm installer registration typically renews from October 1st to December 31st every other year; new ones register with the city in addition to their State Registration. Contractors pulling permits keep a certificate of liability insurance on file with the City of Lincoln as additional insured, $500,000 each occurrence for plumbing, HVAC and electrical work.

    Plumbing renewal
The renewal period for registration is from March 1st to May 31st. If you do not renew by May 31st, you will no longer be licensed to perform certain plumbing work in the City of Lincoln. Failure to renew within 60 days from the expiration of the license will result in the revocation of your license and you will be required to re-take any examinations that are a requirement of the license
    Mechanical renewal
The renewal period for registration is from October 1st to December 31st. If you do not renew by December 31st, the page says you will no longer be licensed to perform certain work in the City of Lincoln. Failure to renew within 60 days from the expiration of the license will result in the revocation of your license and you will be required to re-take any examinations that are a requirement of the license
    Electrical registration
The renewal period for the City of Lincoln Electrical Contractor and Fire Alarm Installer registration is typically from October 1st to December 31st every other year, but you can renew at any time during the two-year period. You must have a current City of Lincoln registration, and an approved Certificate of Insurance, before an electrical permit is issued within the City of Lincoln or three miles of it. New Master Contractors and Fire Alarm Installers must register for license through the City of Lincoln in addition to their State Registration; the page sends readers to the Nebraska Electrical Division for more information about State Registration
    Continuing education
Plumbing: a journeyman or master license needs its CEUs submitted for approval before the license is approved for renewal: 10 hours for a Master Plumber Contractor or Master Plumber, 6 hours for a Journeyman Plumber. Hours are submitted through the city's Plumbing Continuing Education Unit Form
