Nevada Contractor License Renewal (NSCB)
Last reviewed October 2026 · 4 min read
A Nevada contractor license runs for two years and has to be renewed before it expires: an active license not renewed on time is automatically suspended. The NSCB mails a renewal application to your address of record, and you can also renew online once you've linked your license to your Nevada Business ID.
At a glance
- Renews every
- 2 years: a license expires 2 years after the date it was issued, unless the NSCB has set you a different period and told you so. Nevada doesn't issue one-year licenses
- Renewal notice
- The NSCB mails a renewal application to your address of record
- Deadline
- Renew before the license expires. An active license not renewed on or before its renewal date is automatically suspended
- Renew online
- Create an account in the NSCB's online portal with your license number (with its leading zeros) and your Nevada Business ID from the Secretary of State. No Nevada Business ID? Get one and file it with the NSCB first
- Fee
- $600 to renew an active license; $300 for an inactive license. Residential contractors also pay the Residential Recovery Fund assessment at every renewal, and a cash bond carries a $200 administrative fee each time you renew
- Financial statement
- Only if the NSCB asks for one. If it does, the application, fee and financial statement are due by the first day of the month the license expires
- Continuing education
- None: Nevada's contractor law (NRS 624) and the board's regulations (NAC 624) set no CE requirement for renewal
- Bond
- Your license bond must stay in force the whole time the license is active. Surety bonds are continuous, with no end date; if yours is cancelled, the license is suspended until you replace it
- Late renewal
- $150 late fee for an active license
- After suspension
- For an active license, within 6 months of the suspension, you can have the license reinstated by filing the renewal and paying the renewal fee plus a reinstatement fee, if you're otherwise in good standing with no complaints pending. After 6 months, the NSCB can cancel the license, and you'd have to apply for a new one
An inactive license still renews on the date it would have as an active one, and it expires if it isn't put back on active status within 8 years. Late with an inactive renewal? Ask the NSCB what applies: its regulations and the statute describe different outcomes.
If your license was automatically suspended while you were on active military duty, you can ask the NSCB, while still serving, to reinstate it without a penalty.
How to renew
- Find your license number (look it up on the NSCB license search) and your Nevada Business ID, and note your license's expiration date.
- Watch for the renewal application the NSCB mails to your address of record, or renew online in the NSCB portal.
- If the NSCB asked for a financial statement, send it with the application and fee by the first day of the month the license expires.
- Pay the $600 renewal fee (plus the Residential Recovery Fund assessment if you're a residential contractor) before the license expires.

Know your expiration date? Download a free calendar file with reminders before it, no sign-up needed. It's made in your browser: nothing you type is sent to us (your browser keeps it only if you follow the sign-up link, for your new ledger). The license isn't the only thing expiring
Most lapses that cost contractors work aren't the license itself. They're one of these, renewing on a different date:
- Your contractor's license bond, if it's cancelled: the license is suspended until it's replaced
- General liability insurance policy
- Workers' compensation policy (or exemption)
- Certificates of insurance (COIs) you've given to clients and GCs
- Commercial auto insurance
LicenseLedger keeps every one of those dates in one place and emails you before each one expires, with reminders far enough ahead to finish CE and paperwork.
